Pit bikes and small dirt bikes are built around a short list of Chinese horizontal single-cylinder engines — YX, Lifan, Zongshen and Loncin — which share a great deal of their hardware. That interchange is what makes the category cheap to keep running.
The interchange stops abruptly at anything relating to the frame, and that is where orders go wrong.

- Wheels and axles — diameter, width and axle size vary and are rarely stated.
- Swingarms and shocks — eye-to-eye length and mount width decide it, not the model name.
- Engine mounting — the same engine appears in frames with different mount spacing.
How to specify an order that arrives correct
Measure, do not name. "CRF50 style plastics" describes a look, not a fitment; hole centres and overall length describe a part. For anything frame-related, send dimensions and photographs with a ruler in shot.
For engine parts, give the engine code and the bore. For brakes, give disc diameter and pad dimensions. For chains, give pitch and link count. Every one of these is a number the seller can check against their stock, and a name is not.
Shipping constraints specific to this category
- Complete engines are heavy, oily and often refused unless drained and declared properly.
- Fuel tanks and carburettors that have held petrol are treated as contaminated and need declaring.
- Plastics kits are bulky and bill on volume — the one part of this category that behaves like consumer goods.
- Batteries and lithium starter packs are restricted on most economy air routes.

- Will a 125cc part fit my 140cc?
- Sometimes. Bore-related parts will not; clutch, ignition and controls usually will. Give the engine code and the bore and it becomes a question with an answer.
- Can I buy a complete engine?
- Yes, and it ships as dangerous goods if it has ever held fuel or oil. It needs draining, declaring and a route that accepts it — flag it before quoting.
- Are Chinese pit bike parts durable?
- For the price, generally yes on consumables, and variable on anything structural. Sample before buying quantity, particularly for suspension and wheels.
